GUY MOWBRAY IS one of football’s most well-known commentators and has been working with the BBC since 2004.
Last night, the popular commentator was part of the BBC 5Live team covering Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Newcastle at Anfield and prepared for the encounter in typically meticulous detail.
Some, such as transfer fees, ages and goalscoring prowess are obvious, others not so.
For example, had there been an incident where Simon Mingolet was forced to act as a peacekeeper between two players, Mowbray could have noted the Belgian international has a political science degree.
Likewise, had twins been spotted in the crowd, Mowbray could have told listeners that Javi Manquillo left Madrid at the tender age of 13 following the release of his twin Victor.
Other titbits to make it onto the commentator’s cheat sheet include the fact Ryan Taylor is a boyhood Liverpool fan and his team-mate Jamie Sterry is eligible for Italy through his grandfather.
All in all, a lot of preparation goes into these games.
