TOULON OWNER MOURAD Boudjellal fears sought-after full-back Leigh Halfpenny is on his way to Wasps.
The Wales international joined the European champions on a two-year deal at the start of last season and has not agreed a new contract.
Halfpenny, currently sidelined with a knee injury which ruled him out of the Rugby World Cup, has been linked with the likes of Scarlets, his former region Cardiff Blues and Wasps.
Boudjellal expects the picture to become clearer before the end of this year, but is braced to see the 26-year-old reunited with his former Blues boss Dai Young at Premiership side Wasps.
“If we have no contract agreed with Leigh in the next week for next season, I think he will be going to Wasps. We are speaking to Leigh and his agent. He has a good proposition from teams in England with Wasps the main one,” Boudjellal is quoted as saying in the The Rugby Paper.
“We would like him to stay. I don’t know whether he will because in France we have some problems with the salary cap. We hope to have some information in the next week.”
Scarlets coach Wayne Pivac denied that Halfpenny has agreed a return to his homeland with the Llanelli-based Pro12 club.
Pivac said: “There is no change despite me seeing somewhere on Twitter we had signed him, although I am not sure you can trust that. If we had signed him you would know.”
