Irish athlete bumped from Barcelona win

McCarthy pushed repeatedly in race by rival.

IRISH RUNNER DAVID McCarthy is through to the 800 metres semi-final in Barcelona after a dramatic race this morning.

McCarthy was leading when he was bumped repeatedly by Dutch athlete Robert Lathouwers, who at one point ran off the track before rejoining the race for the final 100 metres.

The first push comes at 1:50:

Lathouwers, who won the race, was subsequently disqualified for pushing McCarthy. McCarthy finished fifth and qualified as the fastest loser for tomorrow’s semi.
