Gavin tight-lipped on alleged bite in clash between Dublin and Donegal

The Dublin manager insists he will wait until the CCCC’s report into the incident is released.

DUBLIN BOSS JIM Gavin is to remain tight-lipped on the controversy surrounding an alleged bite in last Sunday’s clash with Donegal until the CCCC report into the incident is released.

Dublin staged a late comeback to draw the Division 1 league tie in Ballybofey, an outcome that resulted in the reigning All-Ireland champions being relegated to Division 2 for next season.

But the aftermath of the game has been dominated by allegations that Donegal attacker Patrick McBrearty was bitten on the shoulder during the match.

The GAA’s CCCC have launched an investigation into the incident which lead to McBrearty undergoing treatment in Letterkenny General Hospital on Sunday night.

The incident was reported in the referee’s match report after Donegal officials informed referee Padraig Hughes of the allegation at half-time and after Hughes was forced off through injury in the second-half, the news was also relayed to his replacement Michael Duffy after the match.

Dublin manager Jim Gavin revealed yesterday that he first heard of the allegation after the match when his squad were travelling home from Ballybofey.

He insisted he will only comment after reviewing the report and his focus is solely on Sunday’s Division 1 league semi-final against Mayo in Croke Park.

“I’ll be waiting for the official report from Paraic Duffy and the CCCC. On review of that report, I’ll make an informed comment.

“The Dublin team doctor volunteered to go in (to the Donegal dressing-room) and have a look. But as I said I’ll just wait for the report from the CCCC.

“We’ve prepared for the game at the weekend. All the focus this week has been on that game. It’s a great challenge for the players again.”
