KELL BROOK WAS defeated by Errol Spence Jr via an 11th-round stoppage in Sheffield tonight.
Spence jnr is the new IBF welterweight world champion after his first pro fight outside of North America.
“I came out the first round trying to force by jab, overshooting it,” Spence jnr said in the ring after the fight.
“He’s a tricky fighter, awkward. I’ve proved today I have a chin, I have true grit.
“There were no doubts at all. I’ll give myself a B minus. I give Kell a lot of credit. He had beautiful fans.
“This is what champions to do. He came to America, so I came over here to get it from him.”
Brook knelt down with his eye in a bad state to hand his opponent the title in the 11th round.
“I got caught in the eye,” Brook explained after. “It felt like the Golovkin one. I couldn’t see out of the eye. I had to stop.”
“It were a very tough fight. Spence is one of the best kids I’ve been in with.
“It was a very competitive fight. I live to fight another today. I’m gutted I’ve lost my belt in front of my fans in Sheffield. I’m devastated.”
