'He was like Muhammad Ali in his pomp': Galway legends on Kevin Walsh's playing days

Sean Óg de Paor, Ja Fallon and Gary Fahy remember when their old team-mate was at his best.

GALWAY ARE JUST 70 minutes away from their first All-Ireland semi-final since 2001.

And while manager Kevin Walsh will be hoping to mastermind victory over Tipperary from the sidelines on Sunday, he was at the heart of the Tribesmen’s midfield the last time they lifted Sam Maguire 15 years ago.

“He could take on anyone in midfield,” team-mate Sean Óg de Paor recalls.

“He was a massive physical specimen. In some ways he was like Muhammad Ali in his pomp.

“When he was on the Galway team, you just felt way more confident.”

See more from de Paor, Ja Fallon and Gary Fahy on Thank GAA It’s Friday, tonight on RTÉ 2 at 8.30pm.
