Kilkenny sides to clash in Leinster schools hurling while Wexford football champs meet Dublin outfit

The draws were made this afternoon.

LAST SEASON”S LEINSTER colleges hurling finalists St Kieran’s will face Kilkenny CBS in a local derby after Christmas in the knockout stages of this campaign.

That was one of the key outcomes of the draws which took place in Croke Park today.

St Kieran’s saw off Kilkenny CBS by 2-12 to 1-11 last year in the decider. The two schools have dominated the Leinster senior hurling scene in recent seasons as they have won the last seven titles between them.

In addition they have provided the final pairing on five occasions since 2010. Their Round 2 meeting on 10 January will be an eagerly-awaited one while also in the winners section there will be a meeting of Dublin North and St Brendan’s Birr or Borris VS.

In football the reigning Leinster senior kingpins are St Peter’s Wexford and they will face Dublin’s Coláiste Eoin after today’s quarter-final draw.

Last spring’s beaten finalists Marist Athlone will also meet Dublin opposition in Scoil Aodháin at the last eight stage.
