Sky Sports forced to apologise as pissed off O'Brien lets rip after Lions win

The Tullow Tank was refreshingly honest after the Lions beat the Melbourne Rebels.

SKY SPORTS PRESENTER Will Greenwood was forced to apologise on behalf the broadcaster after Lions flanker Sean Oโ€™Brien cursed live on air following his sideโ€™s 35-0 win over Melbourne Rebels.

The Irishman scored a try in the second-half of the Lionsโ€™ victory. He will hope that he did enough on the pitch to force his way into coach Warren Gatlandโ€™s thoughts ahead of his Thursday team announcement for the Second Test. Oโ€™Brien made the curse slip-up when Greenwood, a former Lion himself, asked if the players were eager to correct their reversal against the Brumbies last week.

He said the squad wanted to right the wrong of that 14-12 defeat in Canberra rather than an irate coaching staff. Oโ€™Brien commented:

I think itโ€™s a bit of both but mostly players. We were pretty pissed off, to be honest, after last Tuesday night. We wanted to put things right tonight with a good performance. All good.โ€

Greenwood immediately jumped in to say, โ€œWeโ€™ll just apologise for the language thereโ€ฆ weโ€™re sorry.โ€

Oโ€™Brien grinned before adding his apology to the mix. Greenwood continued on with the interview, with Oโ€™Brien and outhalf Owen Farrell, and both players stated their aim to get into the Test match squad.

Oโ€™Brien said, โ€œThe plan was to go out there and work hard for each other. That was the big thing, not trying to make it an individual thing. If the team plays well the individual goes well.โ€

The Lions performed better at the breakdown than they have in recent weeks. Oโ€™Brien was happier that he and his back row colleagues were allowed to get stuck in.

He commented, โ€œItโ€™s a bit of a grey area over here, the way the refs are going to ref it. We said weโ€™d deal with that ourselves tonight and try to get past the ball and take a body out if it was in front of us. It certainly went better than last Tuesday night anyway.โ€
