Brandon Miele inspires Shamrock Rovers to win in Longford

Long-serving League of Ireland footballer Pat Flynn played his final game before retirement for the hosts.

A BEAUTIFULLY STRUCK Brandon Miele free-kick was the highlight as Shamrock Rovers ended their season with a 4-2 win in Longford.

Long-serving League of Ireland footballer Pat Flynn played his final game before retirement for the hosts, whose miserable season came to an appropriate end.

Longford, who finish bottom of the league having picked up just 14 points all campaign, threatened to cause an upset early on, as Mark Hughes’ goal gave them an unexpected lead.

Rovers, however, hit back on 37 minutes from the penalty spot, with Gary McCabe converting the spot kick after Conor Powell had been penalised for handball in the box.

A header from substitute Aaron Dobbs put the visitors ahead for the first time after the break, before a superb double by Brandon Miele — either side of a David O’Sullivan consolation from close range — made the game safe.

The result puts some gloss on what has been a disappointing season overall for Rovers, with the club ultimately having to be content with a fourth-place finish.
