There were county senior football final places on offer in the Wee County, the Lake County and the Garden County over the weekend.

LOUTH SFC
St Patrick’s will face Dreadnots in the final of this year’s Avonmore county senior football championship after the weekend’s semi-final action. St Patrick’s were 2-7 to 0-6 victors over Cooley Kickhams in Saturday evening’s semi-final in Dowdallshill. The winners, who are bidding to retain their title this year, lead by 0-4 to 0-2 at the interval and received an early second-half boost courtesy of an Eoin O’Connor goal. By the final whistle they had seven points to spare over their opponents.

Dreadnots will face them after they qualified for their first ever final with a 0-11 to 0-10 win over Newtown Blues in Cluskey Park yesterday. The match was evenly balanced at 0-6 apiece at the break but Dreadnots kicked on in the second-half to go 0-11 to 0-8 in front with Liam Shevlin to the fore and they survived the concession of two late points to Newtown Blues before triumphing.

Louth SFC final: Sunday October 7th – St Patrick’s v Dreadnots, Gaelic Grounds, Drogheda, 4.15pm.

WESTMEATH SFC
Garrycastle’s dreams of landing a fourth consecutive county senior football title remain intact after they got the better of Maryland by 4-10 to 0-12 in yesterday’s semi-final in Cusack Park in Mullingar. The reigning Leinster club champions lead by 1-8 to 0-6 at the break and their goal-scoring ability proved crucial in the second-half. Patrick Mulvihill and Eoin Monaghan were amongst those that found the net.

The second semi-final, a local derby between Mullingar Shamrocks and St Loman’s (Mullingar), finished in a draw at 2-12 apiece. St Loman’s lead by 1-8 to 0-6 at the interval before being pegged back by a strong second-half performance by Mullingar Shamrocks. The replay will take place on Sunday September 30th at 5.30pm in Cusack Park.

WICKLOW SFC
St Patrick’s, champions in 2006 and beaten finalists in 2008 and 2009, will feature in this year’s senior football decider after a 1-13 to 0-15 semi-final win over Blessington yesterday in Aughrim. The winners lead 1-8 to 0-6 and held on in an exciting finish to prevail by a narrow margin. The other semi-final in Aughrim finished all square as Bray Emmetts and Baltinglass were tied at 0-6 apiece. Niall Gaffney struck two late frees to rescue a draw for Bray Emmetts.
