Mattie Kenny resigns as Galway hurling coach - reports

The news increases speculation that Anthony Cunningham will follow suit.

AS SPECULATION CONTINUES that Anthony Cunningham will step down as Galway senior hurling manager, Galway Bay FM are reporting that one of his coaches, Mattie Kenny, has already resigned.

Kenny, a Tynagh-Abbey/Duniry club man, was regarded as a key part of the set-up that guided Galway to an All Ireland final last year where they took Kilkenny to a replay.

However, 2013 proved to be a disappointing year for the Tribesmen.

After losing heavily to Kilkenny in the semi finals of the league, they were hammered by Dublin in the Leinster final before eventually bowing out to Clare in the All Ireland quarter final.

In 2011, Kenny was coach to the Galway U21s who won the All Ireland against Dublin.
