JIM MAGILTON COULD be set for a move down under to Australia’s A-League as the interim manager of Melbourne Victory.
Magilton, who was Michael O’Neill’s assistant at Shamrock Rovers last season, has been courted by a number of British and Irish clubs since missing out on the Northern Ireland job to O’Neill last month.
Preston North End, Bristol Rovers and Derry City were all thought to be interested in Magilton but the Belfast native has emerged this afternoon as the front-runner to replace Mehmet Durakovic in Melbourne, Sky Sports News reports.
Durakovic was sacked today after an underwhelming seven months in charge of the A-League outfit and chairman Anthony Di Pietro has promised to appoint a manager within the next 48 hours to take charge until the end of the season .
Durakovic’s assistant Kevin Muscat, formerly of Wolverhampton Wanderers, will pick the team for tomorrow’s game against the Newcastle Jets but is not being considered as a candidate for the permanent role.
Magilton, 42, has been out of club management since parting ways with QPR in 2009.
