HE’LL BE HURTING from yesterday’s Donegal county final loss but the silver lining for Michael Murphy is that he’s now free to go to Australia this month to captain Ireland in the International Rules.
Murphy’s club Glenswilly lost yesterday’s Donegal county final by three points to St Eunan’s. The defeat means the end of Murphy’s club championship commitments for 2014 and means he will not now face a dreaded club versus country dilemma in the coming weeks.
Ireland manager Paul Earley will breathe a huge sigh of relief that his captain will be available to him but there are still three other Irish players tied up with club commitments.
Monaghan’s Conor McManus helped his club Clontibret win their Ulster SFC quarter-final tie against St Galls yesterday and they now go forward to a semi-final tie on November 16th.
Derry’s Chrissy McKaigue is in club action next Sunday when his side Slaughtneil face Cavan Gaels in the Ulster SFC quarter-final.
The final member of the Irish squad still in action is Tipperary’s Ciaran McDonald as his club Aherlow remained involved in the delayed completion of the county senior football championship.
