Donegal defender McGee set for scan on knee injury

The Allstar winner now faces an MRI after undergoing an x-ray last night.

DONEGAL DEFENDER NEIL McGee is set to undergo an MRI scan to ascertain if he suffered any ligament damage to his knee in yesterday’s clash with Mayo.

The Gweedore player limped off early in the second-half of the All-Ireland champions defeat in Division 1 of the Allianz football league in Castlebar.

Manager Jim McGuinness revealed afterwards that the player incurred the injury when a stud went across his patella tendon.

At the time of the incident he discloated his knee but medics believed that it relocated itself when McGee straightened the knee in the dressing-room after the match.

McGee went for an x-ray last night in Letterkenny General Hospital and Donegal selector Rory Gallagher confirmed today to TheScore.ie that McGee had got the all-clear from the x-ray and a scan is now required.

“Neil had an x-ray and there is nothing broken. He’s going to go for an MRI scan now to see if there is any ligament damage to the knee.”

McGee, who has picked up Allstar awards in the last two years for his impressive defensive displays, was a key member of Donegal’s All-Ireland winning setup last year.

The reigning champions suffered a 1-10 to 0-9 loss yesterday and McGuinness’s side may now have to plan without McGee for their crunch game against Dublin on Sunday week April 7th.

They will be bidding to stave off the threat of relegation in the final game of their league campaign.
