'I can't put my family through that again' - Nick Blackwell retires from boxing

But the British fighter insists there are ‘no hard feelings’ towards Chris Eubank Jr following the bout that ended his career.

RECOVERING ENGLISH BOXER Nick Blackwell has announced his retirement from the sport but insists there are “no hard feelings” towards the man who effectively ended his career, Chris Eubank Jr.

Blackwell was put in an induced coma following injuries he sustained in a British middleweight title fight in Wembley last month and is still recovering in hospital. Eubank won the fight with a 10th-round knockout to finish off a dominant display.

The 25-year-old has since admitted he was “very lucky” to escape serious injury. Blackwell collapsed in the ring after the fight and was carried away from the arena on a stretcher.

Blackwell tweeted yesterday to thank everyone who has wished him well since he was admitted to hospital.

Eubank Jr responded to the message and the men aired their respect for each other on social media.

When asked by a fan if he would be returning to the ring, Blackwell insisted that he had already made the decision to end his boxing career, although he did suggest that he would be returning to the sport in some capacity.
