26 JUNE 2014, six years ago today, saw one of the Premier League’s star players hit with a lengthy suspension by Fifa.

Diego Godin’s late goal handed Uruguay a 1-0 win over Italy, knocking the four-time champions out of the World Cup in Brazil at the group stages.

However, the game will forever be remembered for a controversial incident that took place moments before the only goal.

Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez clashed with Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in the Azzurri’s penalty area and appeared to bite the Juventus centre-half on the shoulder.

While no action was taken by the referee, Fifa dished out a four-month ban from all football activities the following day.

The Liverpool star, who had been named PFA Player of the Year that year, would join Barcelona weeks later but had to wait until 25 October to make his competitive debut.
