O'Sullivan turns down International Rules call-up, as Cluxton's place uncertain
The Kerry star has ruled himself out of the series, while Dublin’s All-Ireland-winning goalkeeper may also decline the opportunity to captain the side.
KERRY’S DARRAN O’SULLIVAN will reject the opportunity to represent his country in the International Rules series against Australia, in favour of turning out for Mid Kerry in their upcoming county final.
The player was originally selected in the squad to face Australia, however he will now miss the game, after his club’s request to bring the final forward a week, in order to accommodate O’Sullivan, was rejected.
And speaking to the Irish Daily Star (print edition) after his side’s extra-time victory over East Kerry, he confirmed that he would be competing in the county championship final:
“I am in a county final and I am not going to leave the Mid Kerry lads, as much as I would love the experience of going over and playing with the Irish team.”
Meanwhile, there was uncertainty over whether Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton would be able to fulfill his duty to captain the International Rules side, as his team Parnells’ Dublin SFC are due to play a county quarter-final on the same day as he is expected to fly out for the series.

Cluxton could opt for a later flight, however he faces a greater dilemma should his side reach the semi-finals, which are set to clash with the series.
Should his side reach the semis, it has yet to be confirmed what decision Cluxton would make, as the star has maintained his customary vow of media silence, rejecting all opportunities to comment on the matter.
