PS Chorca Dhuibhne still on course for Corn Ui Mhuiri three-in-a-row

The Dingle school, managed by Kerry boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice, won today’s re-arranged game against Coláiste Chríost Rí.

POBALSCOIL CHORCA DHUIBHNE are still on course for a third successive Corn Uí Mhuirí title after they booked their place at the semi-final stage today.

The Dingle-based school were 1-13 to 2-7 victors over Coláiste Chríost Rí after extra-time in their quarter-final tie in Ballyvourney. The game was replayed after the first match had been marred by a black card controversy.

Pobascoil Chorca Dhuibhne, managed by former Kerry greats Eamonn Fitzmaurice and Tommy Griffin, had won that first encounter and they repeated the feat at the second time of asking.

It was 0-5 to 0-4 in Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne’s favour at half-time before Coláiste Chríost Rí bounced back and they hit the net in the 47th minute through John Good. Substitute goalkeeper Matthew O’Mahony had also saved a first-half penalty after net minder Gary O’Sullivan had received a black card.

But Tom Ó Súilleabháin landed a brace of points before Cathal Ó Bambaire tied the game by raising a late white flag that sent the game into extra-time as it finished 1-7 to 0-10.

Coláiste Chríost Rí got a boost when they found the net through an own goal early in extra-time and they lead 2-7 to 0-12 at the midway mark in the additional period. But they failed to score after that with Maitiu Ó Flatharta hitting the net and Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne ran out three-point winners.

Meanwhile there was Leinster colleges hurling victories for Kilkenny CBS, Coláiste Eoin and St Kieran’s (Kilkenny).
