Reading player clarifies Rooney jersey incident

George Evans was accused of ‘snubbing’ the England international after today’s FA Cup game.

READING PLAYER GEORGE Evans has dismissed claims he snubbed Wayne Rooney after today’s FA Cup tie at Old Trafford.

Following Man United’s 4-0 win, the TV cameras picked up on Evans appearing to reject Rooney’s offer of his jersey to the 22-year-old.

Consequently, some media outlets suggested Rooney had been ‘snubbed,’ with the three years Evans spent at Man City before moving to the Championship club cited as a potential reason for the perceived rejection.

However, Evans subsequently moved to clear up the incident on Twitter, explaining that he wanted to exchange jerseys with Rooney away from the public eye rather than on the field owing to his side’s disappointing performance.
