The Bath fly-half, on as a second-half replacement for Stephen Donald, thought he was cruising in for an easy bonus-point try against Wasps and started his celebrations a little bit too early. He must have felt a tiny bit stupid when Tom Varndell somehow managed to get back and wrap him up, preventing him from actually scoring.
Vesty’s idiocy didn’t cost Bath the game, which they won 17-12, but it may still prove significant. Not only would the bonus point have helped Bath’s chances of breaking into the Heineken Cup places, but Vesty also handed Wasps a valuable losing bonus which gives them an extra edge in their battle with Newcastle to avoid relegation.
