ANDY MURRAY BOOKED his place in the US Open final on Saturday evening — and then watched as Sean Connery and Alex Ferguson dropped into his post-match press conference to congratulate him.

The actor and the Manchester United manager were in New York to watch their fellow Scotsman beat Tomas Berdych in four sets, giving him another shot at a first Grand Slam title when he meets either Novak Djokovic or David Ferrer on Monday.

The brief gatecrashing didn’t make a huge amount of sense, but to summarise: Fergie gave Judy Murray wine. And Scotland invented the world.

Connery: Excuse me for interrupting, but I just wanted to make a point. Where’s Alex?. I don’t know where your mother is. There she is.

Murray: Thank you very much for coming. Are you going to be around tomorrow?

Connery: Come on, Judy. Judy, Judy, Judy.

Murray [to his mum]: You smell of wine.

Judy Murray: He made me have wine. He’s just been telling me that Scotland invented the world.

Ferguson: Been coming here the last three years to New York, and I explained how Scotland invented the world; today we invented the wind.

Connery: Today they conquered the world.

Ferguson: Very good. Fantastic.

Murray: See you after the match tomorrow.

Ferguson: Continue your interview.
