THE TIPPERARY HURLERS will be lead by Shane McGrath for the 2013 season after the Ballinahinch club man was confirmed this evening as the county’s new captain.

McGrath will take over from Paul Curran as the captain of Eamonn O’Shea’s team and will skipper the side for the first time next Saturday in Páirc Uí Rinn for their Allianz Division 1A hurling league tie against Cork.

The 28 year-old made his league debut for Tipperary against Limerick in February 2006 and later that year made his senior championship debut against the same county in Munster.

McGrath’s career highlight arrived in September 2010 when the established midfielder was part of the Premier side that won the All-Ireland title against Kilkenny.

He has four Munster senior medals to his name and won an Allstar award in 2008, the same year he was part of Tipperary’s National League winning team. McGrath has also enjoyed success at third-level with Limerick IT as he claimed Fitzgibbon Cup honours in 2005 and 2007.

Borrisoleigh’s Brendan Maher has been chosen as Tipperary vice-captain for the coming year.
