Shelbourne's teen prodigy among the nominees for WNL Player of the Year

Cavan native Leanne Kiernan joins Noelle Murray and Karen Duggan on the shortlist.

LEANNE KIERNAN, THE 17-year-old Shelbourne player who lit up the FAI Cup final last November with a hat-trick, is among the nominees for the Women’s National League Senior Player of the Year.

Kiernan is joined on the shortlist by Shelbourne Ladies teammate Noelle Murray and Karen Duggan of UCD Waves.

The teenage striker, who has already been capped by Ireland at senior level, has also been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award along with Sadhbh Doyle (Galway WFC) and Roma McLaughlin (Peamount United).

The 2016 Team of the Year features five Shelbourne players, while UCD Waves have three representatives, with two Peamount United footballers and one Galway WFC inclusion.

Meanwhile, Peamount striker Amber Barrett will be presented with the Irish Daily Mail Golden Boot award at the ceremony, which takes place on 12 January at the Guinness Storehouse, after registering 16 goals during the 2016 campaign.
