The Morning Score: Friday

Ireland take on the West Indies, Liverpool and Manchester City experience European setbacks, and play is suspended at the WGC-Cadillac Championships in Florida.

1. #HOWZAT? As I type, the Irish cricketers are in action against the West Indies in their Cricket World Cup Group B clash.

Now that everybody’s up out of bed, we’ll bring you over-by-over coverage of the game’s denouement presently. Stay put.

2. #EUROPA LEAGUE Last night wasn’t the best of nights for the English sides in the Europa League.

A first-half penalty gave Braga a 1-0 win at home to Liverpool, while Manchester City were beaten 2-0 in Kiev by Dynamo with former European Footballer of the Year Andriy Shevchenko opening the scoring for the hosts.

3. #FORE! Play was suspended at the WGC-Cadillac Championships in Florida yesterday with a number of players yet to complete their opening rounds. Hunter Mahan led the way at the close of play, shooting seven-under par through his first 11 holes.

The Irish contingent aren’t doing too badly either – Rory McIlroy is on four-under after 15 holes, Padraig Harrington is on three-under after 13, while Graeme McDowell is on one-under after 15.

4. #SIX NATIONS In case you haven’t heard, the Six Nations continues tomorrow afternoon when Ireland take on Wales in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

Former Irish coach Warren Gatland was up to his old tricks again yesterday, telling reporters that he’ll be asking referee Jonathan Kaplan to keep an eye out for Irish infringements at the breakdown.

5. #BREAKING BALL There’s another full weekend of football and hurling action to look forward to, the pick of the action being the clash of Galway and Kilkenny at Pearse Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Galway footballers travel to Killarney on Sunday to take on Kerry. The Kingdom will be without Marc Ó Sé however after the GAA upheld his four-week suspension yesterday.

6. #MAGNIFICENT SEVEN It’s Friday, which can mean a lot of things. Around here, it generally means the return of our weekly Magnificent Seven feature.

I won’t tell you exactly what we’ll be looking at this week – but the clip below might give you a clue.

(And no, it’s not the seven worst charity singles …)
