The Morning Score: Wednesday

Here’s everything you need to know this morning – apart from the going rate for Christmas jumpers.

1. #TORRES Chelsea’s £50m striker Fernando Torres could be available at a hugely discounted price in the January sales, according to reports this morning.

Torres has scored just three league goals since his high-profile switch from Liverpool earlier this year and Chelsea appear willing to open bidding for the Spaniard at just £20m.

2. #Q SCHOOL David Higgins’s dream of playing European Tour golf next year came to an end yesterday when he narrowly missed the cut the in the fourth round of qualifying school in Spain.

The Cork native bogeyed the final hole of his round, missing out on the final two rounds of qualifying by an agonizing one shot.

3. NORTHERN LIGHTS Shamrock Rovers boss Michael O’Neill and assistant Jim Magilton have been named alongside Iain Dowie on the IFA’s three-man shortlist for the vacant Northern Ireland post.

O’Neill has failed to agree terms on a new deal with the Hoops so far and it now appears likely that tomorrow evening’s Europa League clash against Tottenham Hotspur in Tallaght will be his last game as Rovers manager.

4. #HEINEKEN CUP Ulster are waiting anxiously on the fitness of centre Nevin Spence as they prepare for Saturday’s Heineken Cup game against Aironi in Monza.

A rib injury forced Spence off during last Friday’s win over the Italians, though he has been provisionally named in Brian McLaughlin’s 34-man travelling party.

5. #EUROPA LEAGUE Fulham can book their place in the last 32 of the Europa League this evening. Martin Jol’s welcome bottom side Odense to Craven Cottage knowing that a win would guarantee their progress to the knockout round.

Stoke have already qualified ahead of tonight’s final group game against Besiktas in Turkey though a point for Tony Pulis’s men would see them progress as group winners.
