Thurles Sarsfields begin four-in-a-row bid with 40-point win, while Bubbles seals late victory for Killenaule

It was a busy weekend of action in the Tipperary senior hurling championship.

THURLES SARSFIELDS HANDED out a 5-32 to 0-7 beating to  Carrick Swans in the opening game of Group 3 of the Tipperary SHC yesterday.

Sarsfields, who’s won each of the last three county titles, saw former county man Pa Bourke post 0-13, while Michael O’Brien bagged 3-3 and Aidan McCormack scored 1-4.

Tipperary stars Padraic Maher, Ronan Maher and Michael Cahill  were outstanding in defence for the champions, who led by 0-17 to 0-4 at half-time.

A couple of late points from John ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer sealed a 1-18 to 1-16 win for Killenaule over Burgess in Group 2.

Kieran Bergin, who recently stepped away from the Premier squad, bagged a brace as his team led by 1-11 to 1-9 at half-time, before O’Dwyer’s 10-point haul dragged his side to victory.

Elsewhere, the McGrath brothers helped Loughmore Castleiney to a 2-19 to 0-18 win against Upperchurch-Dromban today, while Kilruane MacDonaghs ran out 3-17 to 0-15 winners over Nenagh Eire Òg.

Toomevara enjoyed a 1-20 to 3-13 win against Roscrea, Newport defeated Ballingarry by 3-14 to 0-12, Templederry Kenyons saw off Silvermines by 0-19 to 1-13, Eire Òg Anacarty sealed a 1-18 to 0-14 win over Mullinahone and Borrisokane fell to a 0-19 to 0-10 loss to JK Brackens.
