WATCH: Czech cup game called off amid fan mayhem

Thousands of Slavia Prague fans stormed the pitch in protest against the club’s mismanagement.

IF FORMER LIVERPOOL owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett thought they had a tough time dealing with Anfield’s “internet terrorists,” they might want to think again.

Yesterday’s Czech Cup semi-final between Slavia Prague and Olomouc was called off at half-time after more than 1,000 disgruntled Slavia fans surged onto the pitch and later tried to storm the club offices.

With the scores level at 1-1, the referee took the decision to abandon the remainder of Thursday’s first leg.

The start of the game had initially been delayed by 20 minutes after Slavia fans took to the field in protest at the manner in which the club is currently being run by its officials.

One of the country’s oldest and most famous clubs, Slavia owe their players part of their salaries and subsequently face the threat of relegation.

The fans dispersed following pleas from the players that the game be allowed to begin, but returned to the pitch at the break with riot police deployed to prevent them from following club director Miroslav Platil down the tunnel.

Slavia is likely to be fined by its federation and could lose the game 3-0 as punishment.
