Tipperary 0-22 Limerick 1-09
Clare 3-13 UL 1-13
Tipperary beat Limerick comprehensively, while Clare overcame UL in today’s Waterford Crystal Cup quarter-finals.
In the latter game, UL had the better of the opening stages and lead by 0-8 to 0-6 at the break.
However, early in the second half, a couple of quick-fire points and a Nicky O’Connell goal put Clare firmly in control.
The students replied with a goal from Kieran Morris, before additional goals from Seadna Morey and debutant Alan O’Neill helped seal their side’s victory.
In the afternoon’s other Waterford Crystal Cup encounter, Tipperary earned a convincing 0-22 to 1-9 win over Limerick.
There was little between the sides following a closely fought first half, with Tipperary leading 0-10 to 0-8.
Tipp extended their advantage to seven points in the early part of the second half, before a goal by Shane Dowling brought his side back into the game.
However, the setback only prompted Tipp to increase the intensity of their play, as they avoided conceding any further points thereafter, and ultimately ran out comfortable winners.
Walsh Cup Quarter-Finals
Wexford 1-24 Offaly 1-15
Carlow 1-09 Galway 2-15
Wexford and Galway will feature in the Walsh Cup semi-finals, after they both prevailed in their respective encounters this afternoon.
A Derek Molloy goal gave Offaly the lead early on against the Model county, and they lead 1-10 to 0-10 at the break.
But Wexford came back impressively in the second period, with a Mark Fanning goal from the penalty spot adding a gloss to the scoreline late on.
Meanwhile, Galway won in a similarly emphatic fashion against Carlow today, with Joe Canning putting in a typically influential display.
The star scored a goal and a point early on, as his side went 1-3 ahead without reply in the early stages.
However Carlow fought back well, partially thanks to a Shane Kavanagh goal in the 17th minute, though their opponents still held a healthy 1-10 to 1-3 lead at half-time.
Yet they failed to build on their sporadic first-half promise, and a second goal from Damien Hayes, after being set up by Canning, ensured a safe passage into the semis for Galway.
