AFTER A DISAPPOINTING performance in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Silviniaco Conti bounced back on day one of the Aintree Festival to register a second victory in as many years in the Betfred Bowl.

Leading from pillar to post, the 7/4 favourite held off the challenge of Ballynagour and the Tony McCoy ridden Holywell to claim victory in the Grade One contest.

However, there was some success for McCoy on day one as he claimed victory in the Aintree Hurdle. The soon-to-retire 20-time Champion Jockey jumped the last in the lead on Jezki (3/1) but looked set to come under huge pressure from Ruby Walsh and Arctic Fire.

However, the pair took a horrendous fall, gifting McCoy his first win of this year’s festival.

Walsh took the day’s opening race — the One Magnificent City Manifesto Novices’ Chase — on Clarcam (5/1) when he produced a perfect round of jumping to finish four lengths clear of Vibrato Valtat with favourite Josses Hill coming home a disappointing second last.

The days other Grade One saw 16/1 shot All Yours land the Betfred Anniversary four-year olds Juvenile Hurdle.

Bookies predict that AP McCoy could cost them £50m(!) in his last-ever Grand National
