WHEN CILLIAN SHERIDAN completed his move to Polish title contenders Jagiellonia Bialystok last month, he did so with the intention of boosting his chances of an Ireland recall.
The 28-year-old striker has found himself in the international wilderness in the last few years as he’s switched between Scotland, Bulgaria, Cyprus and now Poland but the case for him to be back in green is gathering serious momentum.
Last night, Sheridan helped his side to a dramatic, and crucial, 4-3 victory over Zaglebie Lubin to open up a four-point lead at the top of the Polish Premier Division.
Sheridan, capped three times by Ireland, the last of which came under Giovanni Trapattoni against Argentina in 2010, scored a first-half brace in an incredible game.
With the sides locked at 3-3 deep into injury time, Sheridan assisted the winner as Jagiellonia Bialystok snatched all three points.
Sheridan has now scored three goals in his first five appearances for his new club and the calls for Martin O’Neill to hand him an international recall are growing louder, particularly when you consider Ireland’s threadbare resources in the attacking department.
