A talented Leinster back row is joining Munster next season

Duncan Williams and Ronan O’Mahony have signed new contracts with the souther province.

MUNSTER HAVE CONFIRMED the signing of 22-year-old Jordan Coghlan from Leinster ahead of next season.

The back row, who has also been used intermittently as a centre, starred for Ireland U20s at the 2012 Junior World Championship, going on to make his senior Leinster debut later the same year.

Coghlan has not featured under current head coach Matt O’Connor, however, and with Munster’s need for back row depth to replace the departing Sean Dougall and Paddy Butler, the former Clongowes student will move south this summer.

The UCD clubman is in the final year of academy terms with Leinster and will join Munster on a one-year development contract.

Meanwhile, Munster have confirmed new contracts for scrum-half Duncan Williams and wing Ronan O’Mahony.

Both players have signed two-year deals, with O’Mahony moving to senior squad status from a development contract next season. 28-year-old Williams recently earned his first start at European level for the province in the Champions Cup defeat to Saracens.

O’Mahony has impressed with his work-rate and athletic prowess in eight starts under Foley this season, having come through the Munster academy after standing out at schools level with Castletroy College.

“Looking ahead it is great to have Ronan and Duncan on board again as we continue to build our squad for next season, and in signing Jordan we look forward to seeing him develop and contribute to the squad,” said Foley of the new deals.
