Big blow to Liverpool's top-four hopes as Sadio Mane set for lengthy lay-off

Without their star attacker, the Reds have picked up just two points from four games this season.

LIVERPOOL’S HOPES OF finishing in the top four have suffered a blow with the news that star attacker Sadio Mane has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The Senegalese international hobbled off following a challenge by Leighton Baines in Liverpool’s recent win over Everton and Jurgen Klopp confirmed the player would miss the run-in

“It’s clear Mane’s season is over. We are pretty sure he will need surgery,” the manager told reporters at his press conference today, adding that he was not sure when the surgery will take place.

It’s bad news for the side who are currently third in the Premier League, though Man City, Man United and Arsenal are all not far behind and still in contention for a Champions League place as the campaign approaches its climax.

Without Mane, Liverpool have picked up just two points from four games this season, including a 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side play Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.
