Juventus omit Patrice Evra and admit he's 'considering his future' amid United rumours

The left-back’s contract expires in the summer and he looks certain to move this month.

ACCORDING TO JUVENTUS director Beppe Marotta, defender Patrice Evra is ‘considering his future’.

The 35-year-old has been linked with a return to former club Manchester United this month and was left out of the Old Lady’s Serie A clash with Bologna this evening.

His current contract expires in the summer but there is an option for another year. However, it seems the Frenchman is seeking to end his career elsewhere.

“Evra is still with us. He was not called up by mutual agreement, as he is considering his future”, Marotta revealed.

“It’s only right he’s taking a moment to reflect, as his contract will expire in June, he is 35 years old going towards 36. We’ll see next week”.

Evra has been in Turin since 2014 and has enjoyed plenty of success – back-to-back league titles and two Coppa Italia triumphs too.

But he’s struggling for game-time this term with Juve boss Max Allegri preferring Alex Sandro on the left-side of his defence.

Evra, who turns 36 in May, spent eight years at Old Trafford and was adored by the United support. He won five Premier League titles and a Champions League in 2008 and rumours suggest he could be set for a return.

Full-back has proved a problem position for United. Antonio Valencia is not a natural defender though Jose Mourinho seems content to persist with him. Left-back is a different story.

Luke Shaw has already had a run-in with his manager over fitness issues and it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese fancies him as a long-term solution. Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind have all been makeshift left-backs at various stages of the season and that’s fuelling the rumour-mill regarding a possible move for Evra.

United would get him at a hugely discounted rate, he’s got a fantastic relationship with Paul Pogba (though he seems to have easily transitioned anyway) and fans would love to see Evra return. Perhaps a short-term deal appeals to Mourinho’s pragmatic ways. Then again, it’s only a temporary solution.
