19-year-old Irish defender Ryan Nolan signs new two-year deal with Inter Milan

The Clare-born teenager joined the San Siro club in 2015 and has signed a new two-year contract.

CLARE TEENAGER RYAN Nolan has signed his first senior contract with Inter Milan, completing a new two-year deal with the Italians.

The 19-year-old was brought to the club in 2015 after being spotted by renowned scout Pierluigi Casiraghi whilst playing for Spanish side Murcia three years ago.

The promising defender, who was born in Shannon but moved to Spain when he was 8-years-old, has followed in the footsteps of players like Liam Brady and Robbie Keane to represent Inter.

Nolan succeeded in making his first-team debut this summer, appearing in a pre-season friendly for Luciano Spalletti’s side against Lugano.

He replaced former Belgium international Radja Nainggolan in the 76th minute during the 3-0 win at the Cornaredo Stadium in Switzerland.

“I’m from Ireland and I began playing football when I was four or five,” Nolan said speaking last November.

“I moved to Spain when I was eight and that’s where I developed as a footballer.

“I played for a local club in Torre-Pacheco in Murcia until I was 16, then I moved to Inter. We moved to Murcia because we went there on holiday every summer.”

“Coming to Italy was very important because I knew I had to improve defensively, as that’s my position,” he added. “In Italy you learn a lot about tactics and defending.”

Inter’s U19s head coach Stefano Vecchi said the defender has a lot of promising qualities.

“Ryan Nolan is a centre-back with good physical attributes,” he said last year. “He’s good in the air and his determination is certainly his main strength.

“He stays very switched on and he’s determined and aggressive – those are his strengths. He’s made real progress because he’s so keen to improve.”
