'Sam is a hero': Burgess saves man choking during a Sydney seafood eating contest

He’s the hero Sydney deserves, and he wasn’t needed by England right now.

HE MAY HAVE been a villain in the eyes of English rugby union last year, but back in league down under, Sam Burgess is a superhero again.

Fox Sports this morning report that Burgess’ quick-thinking during a seafood eating contest ‘saved a man’s life.’

Burgess and his South Sydney Rabbitohs team-mates were engrossed in the eating contest when a staff member got involved with the big boys. Fortunately, Burgess was on hand to go all Slammin’ Sam on him to bail the bloke out.

“Some seafood got caught in his throat and he started choking,” a witness told Fox Sports.

Sam raced straight over and grabbed him and started putting his bodyweight on him to try and get it out.”

We would have expected a textbook Heimlich from Burgess, but clearly he knew the best method for the situation, pushing team-mates out of the way to administer up 40 seconds of his patented Burgess bodyweight technique before the man swallowed the throat-sticking seafood.

“I’m telling you Sam is a hero.”
