IRELAND DEFENDER SEAMUS Coleman has added his name to a growing list of injury concerns for Martin O’Neill ahead of Euro 2016 after being taken off in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.
Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane was at Goodison Park to watch as the Everton right-back pulled up with a suspected hamstring injury in the 54th minute.
He was replaced by Callum Connolly, the Liverpool-born defender making his Premier League debut.
After the match, Everton manager Roberto Martinez was reluctant to put a timescale on Coleman’s injury.
“Seamus felt his hamstring,” he said. “We’ll assess him in the morning but it’ll be hard to see him involved this week.”
With just over eight weeks to go until Ireland kick-off their Euro 2016 campaign against Sweden, O’Neill is sweating over the fitness over several Irish players including Marc Wilson, Jeff Hendrick, Harry Arter, Jon Walters, Robbie Keane and Kevin Doyle, while injuries have already ruled Rob Elliot and Alan Judge out of the tournament.
The injury will also be a cause of concern for the under-fire Martinez as the Toffees come up against local rivals Liverpool in the Premier League in midweek, before taking on Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final next Saturday.
