Steve Evans was not impressed.

LEEDS UNITED MANAGER Steve Evans was left enraged by the decision of referee Anthony Taylor to disallow his side’s goal during the Yorkshire derby earlier.

Gary Hooper’s second-half brace handed Sheffield Wednesday the spoils at Hillsbrough but the game didn’t pass without controversy as the visitors were left bemused by the official’s decision.

With the hosts holding a two goal advantage heading into the final 10 minutes, Leeds thought they’d found a way back into the game when Liam Cooper bundled the ball home from a free-kick.

However, Sheffield Wednesday had been given permission to make a substitute before the set-piece and Fernando Forestieri hadn’t left the field of play before the goal was scored.

Taylor initially awarded the goal as the Leeds players wheeled away in celebration but protests from the Wednesday bench resulted in him reversing his decision and ordering the free-kick to be retaken.

Afterwards, Evans was, well understandably, incensed.

What do you think? Under the letter of the law, it appears the referee eventually made the right decision but should Wednesday and Forestieri have been punished for soaking up the applause and time wasting?
