Star Performers

Hat-trick hero Finn the 1st name in our latest League of Ireland Team of the Week

The midfielder is one of two Dundalk players included, while Cork City, Wexford Youths, Bohemians, Derry City and Galway United are all represented.

Goalkeeper

Graham Doyle (Wexford Youths) – The Youths goalkeeper and captain was unlucky to be denied a win by Mark O’Sullivan’s late Cork City equaliser, but he could do nothing about it. Before that, a string of good saves had suggested that Wexford would take all three points.

Defenders

Roberto Lopes (Bohemians) – The Bohs captain was deployed in front of the back four against the Seagulls and he went about his business perfectly. He kept Ryan Brennan under wraps and almost seized an opportunity in the first half.

Brian Gartland (Dundalk) – Gartland headed home Darren Meenan’s corner for Dundalk’s 1,000th Premier Division goal and was his usual solid self at the back against Longford.

Dano Byrne (Bohemians) – 22-year-old defender Byrne got his head to Lorcan Fitzgerald’s corner to send the Gypsies on their way at the Carlisle Grounds.

Colm Horgan (Galway United) – Horgan is one of the most consistent performers in the United rearguard. The full back continued his fine form and played a big part in the build up to the only goal at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Midfield

Greg Bolger (Cork City) – A frustrating night for City but Bolger ensured that there was a fairly regular flow of chances in the second half.

Barry McNamee (Derry City) - The Ramleton man has stepped up the mark this season in the absence of Patrick McEleney and he was once again at the heart of the action. He set up both the opening goals and linked up with Patterson to great effect.

Ronan Finn (Dundalk) – The midfielder scored a fabulous hat-trick for the Lilywhites in their 4-0 demolition of Longford Town on Saturday evening.

Ayman Ben Mohamed (Bohemians) -  He sealed the win for Bohs with a composed finish on the 70 minute mark but he was extremely lively throughout, almost teeing up a goal in the first period and he also rounded Cherrie before being tripped outside the area.

Forwards

Vinny Faherty (Galway United) – Back at his home club, striker Faherty has started brilliantly after setting league alight with Limerick last season. And he struck his fourth goal of 2016 with his only chance of the game against Finn Harps.

Mark O’Sullivan (Cork City) – On as a 70th-minute substitute for Gearóid Morrissey, the striker struck an important equaliser for Cork with five minutes on the clock after recycling Karl Sheppard’s deflected cross.
