TYLER MORGAN AND Remy Grosso have been added to Wales’ and France’s World Cup squads, after they were hit with injuries in the opening round of matches.
Wales were hit with yet another injury when Cory Allen tore his hamstring in the second half of their 57-9 win against Uruguay yesterday. Allen had scored a first half hat-trick, with his injury especially hard to take, given how the game was petering out of life.
With the Cardiff Blues back out of action for the rest of the tournament, Gatland has called upon Dragons’ Tyler Morgan as cover.
Morgan’s only cap for Wales came in the disappointing warm-up defeat to Ireland at the Millennium Stadium, but he’s been drafted in, with Gatland fast running out of options in the outside backs, after Leigh Halfpenny and Eli Walker had previously withdrawn with injury.
France, meanwhile have called up uncapped 26-year-old Remy Grosso as cover following the injury to Yoann Huget on Saturday.
Huget suffered a torn cruciate ligament in the 32-10 win against Italy at Twickenham, which could also leave him out of next year’s Six Nations championship.
But rather than call-up experienced Toulouse winger Maxime Medard, Philippe Saint-Andre has brought in the uncapped Castres winger Remy Grosso.
26-year-old Grosso arrived into camp this morning, but will not be available for selection until this weekend’s meeting with Canada. Sofiane Guitoune of Perpignan starts on the wing for France tomorrow night in Huget’s place, with France making 13 changes for the Pool D game against Romania.
