IT’S A HARDY man who would have walked into Captain America’s in Dublin last Sunday night and told these manic wrestling fans that it’s all about as real as Fair City.
The place was packed as Irish WWE lovers gathered to watch the Royal Rumble live on TV. This short video, taken at the very end of the Championship match between The Rock and CM Punk, captures the atmosphere brilliantly.
From the spontaneous eruption when Punk is slammed in the middle of the ring, to the guy in yellow putting his whole body into the People’s Elbow, to his insane Hulk Hogan-esque t-shirt ripping celebration, this had it all.
We thought the celebrations were good when Robbie Keane equalised against Germany in Ibaraki but this is a whole new ball game. Cheers to the lads at Big Red Bench for finding it.
