18 things you'll remember from All-Ireland finals during your childhood
1. That drive to Dublin which took hours upon hours
2. Or if you didn’t drive, it was boarding that train to Dublin
3. The anxious wait all week for the parents to get you a ticket
4. Getting the autographs at the open training for supporters
5. Making a sign at home during the week and bringing it to Croke Park on the Sunday
6. The noise from all those air horns
7. So many, many flags on Hill 16
8. Showing your county colours with the face paint
9. Choosing carefully when stocking up beforehand
10. Wearing one of the jester county hats that were once all the rage
11. If you were at home, you tried to figure what the commentator was saying during the minor match
12. And for the senior game, you watched TV with the volume down and this man’s radio commentary was the soundtrack
13. Being part of the mad celebrations as the pitch was invaded
14. Needing help at some stage to see above the crowd onto the pitch
15. If you were lucky you’d get a picture with the cup afterwards
16. You tended to get pretty nervous during the match
17. And there was plenty emotion if your county lost
18. But the day of a win in Croke Park, you’d remember forever
