THE CLARE HURLERS have been hit by the news that corner-forward Aron Shanagher will miss the 2018 season after he suffered a cruciate injury.
Clare FM have reported that the 20-year-old sustained the injury in weeks before the Banner squad traveled to Boston for the Fenway Hurling Classic.
Shanagher was handed his debut for the seniors by Davy Fitzgerald in 2016, and has since struck 3-3 in his eight championship appearances.
The Shannon star scored a point for the Banner in their Munster final loss to Cork during the summer and missed their subsequent All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Tipperary.
It’s a major blow to joint managers Gerry O’Connor and Donal Moloney, who’ve already seen a number of players ruled out for the upcoming campaign.
2013 All-Ireland winners Brendan Bugler, Patrick Donnellan, Darach Honan and Colin Ryan all announced their retirement this winter, while it’s believed Aaron Cunningham and Cian Dillon will spend much of 2018 travelling.
