Murphy finishes tenth overall in Breaststroke semi-final
IRELAND’S BARRY MURPHY has finished tenth overall in the 50m Breaststroke semi-final at the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.
The swimmer finished with a time of 26.82, which was slightly slower than his effort of 26.76 in the morning heat.
He consequently missed out on a place in tomorrow’s final, with a time of 26.71 required to progress.
In reaction to his race, Murphy tweeted:
“Thank you all again for the fantastic support. Gutted not to make the final but 10th at Worlds isn’t too bad. Cheers everyone.”
Meanwhile, Slovenia’s Damir Dugonjic qualified fastest overall with a time of 26.27, and Brazil’s Felipe Lima attained the final spot in 26.71.
The event brings an end to Murphy’s relatively successful time at the Championships, with the Dubliner having broken Irish records over the past few days.
