In case you’re wondering, it’s not Roy Keane.

BOLTON WANDERERS ARE nearing a deal to bring in Steve Walford as assistant manager.

57-year-old Walford is currently a coach with the Ireland senior team, having previously worked under Martin O’Neill at Wycombe Wanderers, Norwich City, Leicester City, Celtic, Aston Villa and Sunderland.

Championship club Bolton are looking for a number two to replace the outgoing Johan Mjällby and Trotters boss Neil Lennon confirmed at a press conference this morning that negotiations with Walford are close to being finalised.

It is believed that Walford will continue in his role with Ireland if he does take the job.
