Boost for Lions as Pocock ruled out of summer series

The formidable openside flanker suffered knee ligament damage this morning.

AUSTRALIA HAVE BEEN dealt a major blow to their hopes of beating the British and Irish Lions this summer with the news that their captain, David Pocock, will miss all three Tests with a knee injury.

The openside flanker was carried off injured after just 13 minutes of this morning’s Super XV clash between his ACT Brumbies and the NSW Waratahs.

Post-match scans, reports SA Rugby Mag, have revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament and Pocock took to Twitter to signal his appointment with a surgeon next week.

The injury to the Wallabies’ captain overshadowed what would otherwise  have been a good day for the Brumbies as they took all five points in this Australian conference clash thanks to a 35-6 win.

Pocock’s unavailability to Robbie Deans’ side means the Kiwi will now look to Michael Hooper to fill the number seven shirt after an impressive debut in November.
