SLIGO SNATCHED A late draw against Armagh in today’s Division 3 clash at Markievicz Park thanks to a late penalty from Adrian Marren.
The Connacht side drew 1-14 to 2-11 with Kieran McGeeney’s men, despite trailing by six points at the midway point of the second-half.
Ethan Rafferty’s goal handed Armagh a 1-5 to 0-7 lead at the break, and second-half sub Jamie Clarke helped set-up a Mark Shields goal to leave their team six in front.
Sligo kicked the next three scores and rounded off the comeback when Marren converted a last gasp spot-kick to seal a share of the spoils.
Elsewhere in the third tier, Longford were 1-12 to 0-10 winners over Offaly.
After a tight opening half, Longford moved into a five point lead in the third quarter with Robbie Smyth and Sean McCormack on target.
Larry Moran’s 66th minute goal left Denis Connerton’s outfit eight points up and, although Offaly kicked the final three scores, it was a comfortable win for Longford.
Meanwhile in Division 4 today there were wins for Waterford, Wexford and Leitrim, while Carlow and Westmeath played out a draw.
Shane O’Neill found the net for Carlow in stoppage-time in a dramatic 2-10 to 2-10 draw with the Lake County.
A Paul Broderick goal left Tom Cribbin’s team 1-4 to 1-3 in front at half-time, before James Dolan’s three-pointer left Westmeath in a commanding position. O’Neill’s late intervention saved a point for Carlow to the frustration of Cribbin.
Wexford scored eight points after the interval to secure a 0-14 to 1-8 win over Limerick.
Danny Neville punched in a Limerick goal with three minutes to play, but the Yellow Bellies held firm to secure the two points.
Leitrim had two players sent off but they still survived a trip to Aughrim and ran out 1-17 to 0-10 winners against Wicklow.
Forwards Stephen Kelly and Emlyn Mulligan were dismissed in the final ten minutes, but by that stage Leitrim had the game well wrapped up.
Ryan O’Rourke’s goal after 43 seconds handed Leitrim the perfect start and they never looked in trouble from that point on.
Finally, in the day’s early game Waterford defeated London on a scoreline of 2-16 to 1-8.
Paul Whyte topped the scoring charts with 1-5 for the Deise, while Gavin Crotty added their second goal.
