ROSCOMMON’S DONIE SHINE could miss the remainder of the season as he awaits scan results on his ‘ruptured posterior cruciate’ ligament injury.
Shine was carried off after 54 minutes of Roscommon’s Connacht championship semi final defeat to Mayo on Sunday.
Shine tweeted the latest update on his injury earlier today, and he is now awaiting an expert opinion following a scan in Santry Sports clinic in the coming week.
The 2010 All-Star nominee had scored one point, operating in a deeper role than usual before he landed awkwardly on his knee.
Shine told TheScore.ie that he was disappointed to be be called ashore so early in the game, but with the calibre of U21 players within the panel he was confident that they could finish out the job.
“I was disappointed to come off that early but I knew we had plenty of back up on the sideline, so there was never an issue there. We’ve plenty of young lads coming through there and it’s a very strong panel but we just didn’t have enough to get over the line.
Shine spent large portions of Sunday’s game in his own half back line as John Evans’ side adopted a very cautious approach against the All-Ireland finalist of the past two years.
“I suppose it was a different game then we usually play, I suppose a bit defensive and just trying to stay in the game as long as we could and then maybe going for it.
“It was not as open as we’d be used to but you have to adapt and play that way to be in with a shout sometimes.”
Shine suffered an earlier knock on the same right knee in the first half, but second time around and the big centre forward was forced to watch on from the sidelines.
Roscommon fans will be hopeful of good news in the coming week as the Clan na nGael man may have kicked his last ball of 2014.
