After Eoin Cadogan’s decision to concentrate on Gaelic football for the 2013 season, is the era of the Cork dual player at an end?

CORK’S EOIN CADOGAN confirmed on Saturday that he intends to focus on Gaelic football for the 2013 campaign.

The Douglas club man has been featuring as a dual star for the past three years but has now opted to concentrate on life with Conor Counihan’s squad.

He followed in a long tradition of Cork players who shone for both of the county’s senior sides.

But with the ever increasing demands on inter-county GAA players, is the dual star now a dying breed?

Here are some of the Rebels who have been to the fore at senior level over the years in both Gaelic football and hurling.

Jimmy Barry-Murphy
The St Finbarr's man enjoyed a storied career winning six All-Ireland senior medals (one football and five hurling) as a player along with seven Allstar awards (two football and five hurling). The current Cork hurling boss previously steered the Cork to Liam McCarthy Cup glory in 1999.
Sean Óg Ó hAilpin
Ó hAilpín won three All-Ireland senior hurling medals as a player along with three Allstar awards. In football he was part of the Cork senior team who won league and Munster titles in 1999 but fell short in the All-Ireland final against Meath.
Brian Corcoran
Corcoran collected three All-Ireland senior hurling medals as a player and won eight Munster senior titles (three football and five hurling). His efforts to claim Sam Maguire fell short with a final defeat for Cork against Derry in 1993.
Ray Cummins
Cummins attained the ultimate honours in both codes as he won an All-Ireland SFC medal in 1973 with Cork and was part of four Cork Liam McCarthy Cup-winning sides. In 2000 he was named on the GAA's Hurling Team of the Millennium.
Tom Kenny
Kenny is better noted as a hurler having won three All-Ireland senior medals with Cork but he also played senior football for the county in the 2003 Munster championship against Limerick. Before that he had won Munster football medals at minor, U21 and junior levels for Cork.
Jack Lynch
The former Taoiseach, who passed away in 1999, is regarded as one of the country's greatest dual players as he won five All-Ireland hurling medals and one football medal in 1945. In 2000 he was named at midfield on the GAA's Hurling Team of the Millennium.
Diarmuid O'Sullivan
O'Sullivan is regarded primarily as a hurler with the Cloyne man winning as a Cork senior hurler, three All-Ireland medals, five Munster titles and four Allstar awards. In 2002 he was involved with the Cork footballers under Larry Tompkins management and won a Munster medal.
Eoin Cadogan
Cadogan has been involved with both Cork senior teams in recent years. He did not collect honours with the county's senior hurlers, losing two league finals and a Munster decider, but was part of Cork's All-Ireland football winning team in 2010 and won a Munster medal in 2012.
Teddy McCarthy
McCarthy is famous for being the only player to have won All-Ireland senior hurling and football medals when he achieved that feat in 1990. He also lifted the Liam McCarthy Cup in 1986 and the Sam Maguire Cup in 1989, while collecting nine Munster senior medals during his career.
Denis Walsh
Walsh was a dual player during the 80's for the Cork hurling and football teams. He won All-Ireland hurling medals in 1986 and 1990, along with a senior football medal in 1989, but was not eligible for that honour in 1990. He went on to become Cork senior hurling manager from 2009-2011.
Denis Coughlan
Coughlan was another notable Cork dual player. He won five All-Ireland senior medals (four as a hurler and one as a footballer), along with three Allstar hurling awards and was the Texaco Hurler of the Year in 1977.
Dinny Allen
Allen was a noted footballer and captained Cork to win the 1989 All-Ireland title before announcing his retirement after that game. He won three Munster senior medals as a footballer and also won one provincial medal as a hurler in 1975.
