For the first time since 2006, Errigal Ciaran are the senior football kingpins in Tyrone after they fashioned a five-point win over reigning champions Dromore yesterday afternoon in Healy Park in Omagh.

Errigal Ciaran, captained by Tyrone All-Ireland winner Enda McGinley, proved too strong for a Dromore team that finished the game with fourteen men after county senior Cathal McCarron was shown a red card in the closing stages.

The winners lead by 0-5 to 0-3 at half-time with a run of four points without reply during the half proving pivotal to the construction of that interval advantage.

However Dromore emerged for the second-half in determined mood with Eoin McCusker (2), McCarron and Colm McCullangh propelling them into a 0-7 to 0-5 lead.

Yet Errigal Ciaran then took over as they drew level by the 42nd minute courtesy of a point by Tyrone senior Peter Harte before his cousin Davy edged them in front by 0-8 to 0-7 with ten minutes remaining.

And they then then kicked for home in style with Ronan McRory, Brian Horisk, Damien McDermott, Thomas Canavan and Cormac McGinley all amongst their point-scorers as they sealed victory.

Errigal Ciaran, the club of county senior manager Mickey Harte and former attacking great Peter Canavan contested nine finals between 1993 and 2006, winning nine of those, but yesterday’s victory was a significant one as they ended a six-year barren run.

They will now travel to Kingspan Breffni Park on October 21st for the preliminary round of the Ulster Club SFC against Cavan champions Mullahoran. Errigal Ciaran have previously experienced provincial glory in 1993 and 2002.
