Everton academy manager backs Irish prodigy to shine

The Toffees beat off stiff competition from a number of teams, including Man United and Liverpool, to sign Stephen Kinsella.

EVERTON ACADEMY MANAGER Alan Irvine has backed Irish youngster Stephen Kinsella to shine, after it was confirmed that the player would be linking up with the club in the summer.

The Toffees beat off stiff competition from a number of teams to sign the highly promising 15-year-old Irish winger.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham all hoped to sign Kinsella from Templeogue United, however the Irish Under-17 international ultimately opted to join Roberto Martinez’s side on a scholarship deal.

Reacting to the news, Everton academy manager Alan Irvine told the club’s official website: “I am delighted Stephen will be joining us. He is a very talented player who was wanted by many other Clubs and who has decided to come to Everton.

“He’s a winger who has the ability to go past players and we are very much looking forward to working with him.”

Martinez is understood to have travelled to Dublin to meet the player in person back in October, ostensibly persuading him to join the club in the process.
